CODE OF BEHAVIOR
INTRODUCTION
In the present code are reflected the guidelines that govern the conduct of employees within and outside the company, as we are committed to disseminate and promote compliance with this code with our guests or customers.
This code is derived from Business Policy Manual of Petén Esplendido Hotel and Conference Center, which revolves around three main axes.
• Support the protection of natural protected areas
• Respect for local cultures and traditions
• Rescue and conservation of cultural heritage
Our goal is for all people who have a direct or indirect link with the company (employees, customers, guests, suppliers and community neighbors) know what to do and what not do to preserve the natural protected areas and cultural heritage of the region as well as maintaining respect for local cultures and traditions.
RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT
• We are committed to reporting on the location and characteristics of the sensitive areas of scientific importance, as well as nature reserves and protected ecosystems, to avoid accidentally harm them.
• Actively defend the conservation of wildlife in the lake, protected areas and respecting any plant or animal species at risk.
• Do not acquire or use products made from protected animal and plant species, archaeological pieces which its origin or legality is not demonstrable.
• Contribute to preserve the lake, throwing no plastics or other inorganic or organic waste. No pouring or letting out harmful or toxic liquids, or any other harmful substance into the lake. Promotion and use of selective collection / recycling of solid waste in the lake
• We are committed to complain to the competent authorities any threat of contamination with chemicals from the land and the use of illegal fishing gear.

Recommended Conduct in archaeological sites:
• Remember that you are in a protected area and its conservation depends greatly on the care that we give, so we would appreciate comply with the following:
• It is not allowed people drunk or under the influence of drugs.
• Driving the vehicle at 40 km / hour or less
• Deposit trash in the respective places.
• Avoid contact by shouting or using audio devices
• No campfires are allowed so the food that you bring to the archaeological site must be previously prepared food.
• For your own safety please attend rules and signs in the archaeological site you visit.
Prohibitions within archaeological or protected areas:
• Do not carry firearms or sharp materials inside the parks, visitors centers and the archaeological area; visitors who carry them are obliged to deposit in the hands of central authorities and will be returned at the end of the visit.
• Using radios, tape recorders or any audio device is not permitted
• Sitting on the stelae and altars as well as scratch and write names on the walls of the structures and monuments is prohibited.
• It is not allowed to enter dogs, cats and pets.
• The extraction of plants, hunting, trapping or damage is penalized.
• Do not burn rockets and other explosive devices.
• Commercial advertising or other type of advertising are prohibited.
• Avoid causing public disorder or offenses to morality and decency.
• Do not cause forest fires
Disregard of previous bans will lead to the authorities of the centers so they can expel it, warning, and to denounce it or drive it to the authorities. Article No. 279, paragraph 1o. Penal Code.

• We support local development projects that benefit the growth of the town and our Hotel's image.
• We defend the right of everyone, without discrimination, to a natural and social environment supportive of human dignity, physical health and spiritual well-being, with special attention to the rights of indigenous peoples and minorities.

• Hotel's priority is to develop its operations in harmony with the environment. We encourage the development and implementation of systems

• We actively participate in all actions and activities that promote and preserve the health, safety, hygiene, civil protection and environment of the region.
POLICY AGAINST SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF MINORS
The Code of Ethics for Tourism of the WTO (World Tourism Organization) states that the exploitation of human beings in any form, particularly sexual, especially when it involves children and adolescents, contrary to the objectives key tourism and is the negation of its essence.
The State and all Guatemalan citizens have an obligation to ensure the protection and enforcement of the rights of minors who live in the country, especially against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Petén Esplendido openly rejects the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Guatemala and the world, particularly the type associated with travel and tourism, as this is a behavior that violates the fundamental rights of minors and that is contrary to intrinsic goals of tourism, such as respect for all peoples and cultures, sustainable development, fostering peace and respect for human rights.
Petén Espléndido also condemns those who make use of tourism and the facilities it offers to promote, facilitate or tolerate the occurrence of commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents
Therefore, Petén Esplendido is committed to taking appropriate measures to protect minors against sexual exploitation associated with travel and tourism, through the following:
Train company staff to learn and behave according to the practices and policies adopted by this Company for the protection of children and adolescents against commercial sexual exploitation and for the appropriate handling of situations of this nature presented to them in the course of work. The workers of the company will act as preventive agents of this problem, with the primary principle of the interests of minors that may be affected.
Make public the ethical policy, stating the position of rejection of the company in regard to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents.
Inform our customers and suppliers about our position of opposition to the commercial sexual exploitation of minors through the placement of external symbols
Definitions:
Minor: The laws of Guatemala recognized by a minor, the person who has not attained the age of eighteen
Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents: is a violation of the rights of children and adolescents, a pattern of abuse that involves not only the sexual victimization of a minor by another, but to obtain remuneration in cash or in kind as a result of this victimization, a contemporary form of slavery, and forced income-generating activity and harmful to society and the touristic sector. It includes prostitution, trafficking and pornography in which they are involved minors.
Sex Tourism: is the sexual exploitation of minors in their country of residence for foreigners visiting the country as travelers or tourists. It includes promoting the country as a point accessible to the exercise of this activity with impunity, by domestic or foreign.
